About Us
The Lanarkshire Climate Action Hub was formed in December 2023. We are part of the network of community climate action hubs across Scotland. We connect, engage and empower communities in Lanarkshire in developing local solutions so that we can all live in low carbon resilient places.
What we do

Share information on climate
On our website you find loads of resources to support individuals and groups to take climate action. You find these under the 'Resources' menu. We also share climate news and stories via our social media and newsletter. You can sign up to our newsletter here. Finally, we also host events, climate awareness training and workshops across Lanarkshire.

Provide funding and support
Each year we offer a number of small grants to support local climate action. We also help identify other funds that may fit your project and provide impartial advice and guidance on writing funding applications. Our Development Officers specialise in projects related to Energy, Food, Growing and Greenspaces, Travel and Waste. You can find their contact details in the section below.

Enable groups to bring ideas to life
If you have an idea that enables local climate action, we are here to help you make it happen. We listen, provide advice, support project development and fund local climate projects.
A few of the ideas we have helped come alive include Lanarkshire Seed Savers Network, a sharing library in East Kilbride Woodlands and trialling a new community bus route in the Larkhall area.

Connect communities across Lanarkshire
Challenges and opportunities are easier to manage when we work together and learn from one another. We organise learning exchanges and connect groups with other local organisation that can help them overcome challenges or pursue new opportunities.

How we support

Gordon Muir
Managing Director
I am the Managing Director of The Rural Development Trust of which Climate Action Lanarkshire Hub is a project. My role is to ensure that the Hub operates within the regulations and fully complies with UK laws. I oversee the financial governance and manage the financial reporting for the Hub.
When not working on The Rural Development Trust's business I run my own telematics company and sit on the Board of other charities, I enjoy helping communities to be places where it is nice to live.

Alison Limbert
Strategic Lead Officer
I help to connect community-based groups and organisations with other organisations, to enable an understating of how climate change is impacting their communities and to increase climate action activities. I do this through engagement with Local Authorities, developing project ideas and securing funding and events that bring stakeholders together to discuss local climate action. I connect climate action in Lanarkshire with other parts of Scotland through the national Climate Action Hub network and with national organisations like Verture and Culture for Climate Scotland.
I love spending time enjoying Scotland’s stunning natural environment from walking in the hills to paddleboarding on the lochs.

Natasha Byrne
Development Officer – Energy
I support communities across Lanarkshire to identify and deliver energy projects. If a community group is looking to reduce energy use, improve an inefficient community building or explore renewable opportunities, I can guide you through the process. We provide an Energy Handholding Service, to help groups understand options, gather quotes, build capacity and support with finding suitable funding. I also help facilitate peer-to-peer learning, so groups can connect with others who have been on a similar journey to enable them to build knowledge and confidence.
Outside of work, I enjoy walking my dog Willow, gardening and spending quality time with my family.

Julie Nelson
Development Officer – Food
Food is what connects us across communities and our food choices have an impact on our sense of empowerment in acting on climate change, building community resilience and supporting our health. I help groups across Lanarkshire to develop local food projects, from growing and food-sharing initiatives to work that improves access to affordable, sustainable and healthy food. I can support groups to explore ideas, look for funding, share learning and develop practical projects that reflect local needs. Outside of work, I like to explore mountain biking trails with my family, or if the weather isn’t up to it, can often be found experimenting with recipes to incorporate more unusual or seasonal produce with sometimes mixed results!

Ben Sadler
Development Officer – Greenspaces
Growing plants and expanding networks of greenspace strengthens our resilience to climate change, supports biodiversity and improves our health and wellbeing. I collaborate with our project partners on the Lanarkshire Seed Savers Network, encouraging seed-saving and adapting plants to the region’s growing conditions. I can work with groups to identify the climate impacts affecting your communities and explore opportunities to design and develop community adaptation projects.
I also work on community growing projects and enjoy spending time outdoors, foraging and learning about fermentation while creating a food forest on an allotment.

Greig Hawke
Development Officer - Travel
Travelling sustainably can be one of the most effective ways to reduce our carbon output. I support groups in Lanarkshire to develop local solutions to how people travel, whether by walking, wheeling and cycling, or by shared and public transport. If you’re looking to start up a community bike reuse hub or hire scheme, need guidance on setting up a car-sharing club, or want to get people out walking and discovering local routes, I’d love to help.
In my spare time, I try to get outdoors as much as possible and enjoy hiking, running and cycling - especially in the warmer months when I can combine these activities with some camping!

Karen McLaughlin
Development Officer – Waste
I offer inspiration, guidance and practical support to help groups reduce waste in their communities. Whether you’re looking to address a waste problem, start a new initiative - such as a mend and repair workshop or a tool library - or scale up an existing project, I can support you. I can also connect you with like-minded groups for peer-to-peer learning and help you explore funding opportunities.
I’d love to support you, so please feel free to get in touch!
In my spare time, you will probably find me at the gym, enjoying time with family and friends, or enjoying a show at the theatre.

Pernille Soeholm
Communications Lead Officer
Getting our marketing and communications right is essential to building our community and developing our projects. I can provide strategic guidance and advice to support your group achieving your goals. Whether you are looking to develop or optimise your comms strategy, struggling to reach new audiences or feel overwhelmed or unsure of how to prioritise comms tasks I can help you – just get in touch.
Next to this role, I also deliver the comms for a cycling charity in Glasgow. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outdoors and drinking coffee with a great view.

Laura Coyle
Communications Support Officer
If you would like the Hub to promote your activities I can help you. I support community groups raise the profile of their climate action activities and events by promoting them through the Hub’s social media channels, newsletter and website. If you are new to comms, I can also provide support and guidance on how to use various social media platforms and online design tools.
In my free time I enjoy going to the theatre and spending time outdoors walking and kayaking.
